The average day is stressful enough without having to think of last minute (or early morning) meals. Mornings are often the most hectic time of the day for many of us but said to also be the most important time of the day for us to eat something that will nourish our bodies. Getting into a routine of preparing your own meals lets you control what you put into yours and your family’s bodies. Temptation is often hard to resist in the world of processed and sugary foods which we live in but if your pantry, fridge and freezer are filled with the good stuff, the bad stuff is less tempting! I’d like to share with you a few ideas for preparing breakfast ahead of time. They’re all very easy and your body will thank you for it!
Ready to blend smoothies
While many of us may love the idea of making a fresh smoothie every morning, very few of us love the idea of having to make one from scratch. By preparing smoothie packs ahead of time and freezing, they can be prepared in minutes! Simply choose your favorite fruit and vegetable smoothie mix, freeze in individual portions and when you’re ready to make a smoothie, just add liquid.
Did you know that frozen fruit and vegetables are often more nutritious than most “fresh” produce found at your local grocery store? Because the produce is flash frozen at the source, it doesn’t have to be treated with chemicals to preserve freshness as it travels long distances to your local grocery store.
Homemade overnight oatmeal
With as few as 4 ingredients, this make-ahead breakfast (or snack) idea is sure to become an instant hit. By combining rolled oats, yoghurt, milk, fruit and any other optional ingredients in a jar and left in the fridge overnight (or safely for up to 4 days) you can create a healthy and delicious grab-and-go (or sit down and eat) breakfast meal.
Frozen pancakes or French toast
Make your Sunday brunch last the week! Cook up a double (or triple) batch of pancakes or French toast over the weekend, freeze and then pop into the toaster for a super quick, easy and delicious breakfast during the week. When freezing, arrange in a single layer on a baking sheet to freeze and then transfer to freezer safe bags for up to a couple months. This simple trick is sure to save you both time and money! Win-win.
