Making a Home for the Holidays

I honestly don’t know what I love most about this season. The end of a year-long hope for snow, the excuse to eat a little too much, or the lights that twinkle on my drive home in the long, cold winter evenings, are all so special.

There’s nothing that warms me more, after walking from my frosty car and over the snowy pathway, than coming home to my family in a house full of love, a tree that we decorated together and the glimpse of one last cookie just for me.

Turning a house into a home is a long process. Of course, those to share it with mean everything, but to get the decor perfect may never end. And that’s OK.

I’m relatively new to the furniture and interior design world, coming from a background in organic food, but I’ve always known that there’s nothing quite as satisfying as getting a room ‘just right’.

As the seasons change outside, so does the inspiration for blending between the new flowers, leaves and weather with what’s in our homes. While the Spring brings hope and freshness, Summer is full of fun and opportunity, the Autumn comes with a nip to the air and beautifully warm tones, Winter will always be my favourite. I will never get my fill of mixing coziness with sparkling lights, evergreen foliage and a promise of new memories and old traditions.

The year is drawing to a close and there’s no stopping it. Here at Urban Barn, we’re getting things ready for the launch of the Spring catalogue (I’ve seen some of it, and it’s gorgeous!), as well as some really beautiful new additions to our furniture lineup. If you haven’t signed up for our newsletter, you’ll be the first to see what’s coming in 2017.

What new memories will you make this season? Or are you looking forward to the longer evenings and the last of the snow? Tell us in the comments what you’re excited for.
