Our brand new Spring 2014 collection of furniture and accents is launching in stores and on our website today! Learn what inspired our Creative Director Sebastien to create this collection:
Q: Tell us about Urban Barn’s colour stories for spring.
A: Firstly we have the “Nude” colour story. Inspired by women’s fashion, this one was a big challenge to bring the vision to life. Finding the perfect shade of nude was tricky – we didn’t want it to be too pink, too beige, or too peach. I wanted to make it modern and fresh by pairing it with shades of grey and white, and including it in graphic patterns on textiles.
Next we have the “Ocean Drive” story. This look was inspired by a beach vacation in Thailand – the aqua and blue shades of the ocean and the sky made me feel these colours are meant to be together, and this prompted me to seek out accents that would bring this feeling into the home. I feel this look is a great way bring a fresh spring look into your home, without feeling too feminine.
I’m also very excited about the “Sunnyside” colour story. After a long winter, whether it’s wet here on the west coast, or cold across the rest of the country, we’re all in need of a little vitamin C. The Sunnyside look includes a variety of oranges and yellows, and is meant to bring sunshine indoors after months of life without much warmth!
Q: What are a couple of your favourite pieces in stores for spring?
A: I’m so excited about the Element pendant chandelier. Add instant elegance, and for $149, it’s a real bang for your buck. Available in 4 shades, the grey is a classic, and the orange will add a modern pop of colour. I’m also loving the Ironside collection. It almost looks like it’s from a different era, and I love the metal details and the architectural base. One other piece I’m a big fan of is the Tie-Dye toss cushion collection – these cushions are on-trend with the natural artsy trend, and are each hand-dye, so you get a unique look from each cushion.
